VVV Rainbow Dash made herself look bad, trying to impress no one in particular instead of just saving ponies. Mare-Do-Well saved ponies, as somepony had to do. It’s her fault that she didn’t think about doing a better job as a hero and instead only cared about HER image… she was saving lives, remember? Priorities, people.  
It was a misunderstanding at worst. All the “they humilliated her!!!” stuff is just over-glorified headcanon and it needs to die.

/ Yes, they most certainly did. The whole point of dressing up as Mare-Do-Well was to make her look bad. It would be like if some guy came across a kid with a broken leg sitting on a bench and he stole one of his crutches, causing the incensed child to chase after him and hurt himself further due to his injury.  
“Well, I didn’t hurt him! He hurt himself!”  
You may not have hurt him directly, but your douchebaggy actions did lead to it.  
Also, this “scapegoat” business is utter nonsense. Hell, the fact that this episode has received a generally positive reception among fans should be proof of that. As well, my gripes with the majority of the episodes she wrote have nothing to do with the fact that she wrote them, and everything to do with the content of the episodes themselves.

They didn’t humilliate her, she humilliated herself. They could have leave her unmask them in front of the whole town, but instead they made her go somewhere else to talk to her.
 
Most if not all the hate towards TMMDW comes from assumptions. Merriwether Williams was an easy target because it was her first episode.

I loved all her episodes. Let’s be real here: this fandom wanted a scapegoat to bitch and complain about. The other writers had their share of hiccups but they aren’t outright bullied about it.

I don’t ‘hate’ any of William’s episodes, though I think that MMDW and Dragonquest are her weakest episodes.
 
I enjoyed the other three she wrote.
 
Still, that being said, I think her weakness is that she’s more used to writing for shows with more fluid characterisations and settings (i.e. they can be bent and broken to fit a story), whereas FiM is a show that isn’t really that good if the characterisations and setting are broken (because…well, it’s probably the main reason most of us like the show). It’s not that she’s a bad writer, hell, the stuff she wrote on Spongebob was hilarious; it’s just that she seems to be still getting used to writing for more solid characterisation and setting…at least IMHO

most of the people that hate that hate Dragonquest too.  
And a whole lot that didn’t hate MMDW hated Dragonquest as well.

Actually she wrote only good episodes with exeption Mare-do-well. Dragonquest. Herth Warming Eve? I hate how this one ep cast shadow on all her work, people. Stereotiping = bleh

Yeah, it’s her first good episode - in this season.

I guess ‘cause they never explained where the Princesses were, if this was before they were born, or where they were during those events.
 
Though, personally, I’m glad they left some things kinda vague, and up to the viewer’s imaginations for them to interpritate for themselves.
 
Also, what’s wrong with Williams episodes? I also never understood all the hate for “Mare Do-Well” personally.

Hey, I really like Putting Your Hoof Down.  
It’s the first episode I’ve ever watched.

Wait, how exactly did “Hearth’s Warming Eve” mess with the established timeline?

I’m with those who actually felt that Hearths’ Warming Eve and Putting Your Hoof Down were “good” episodes (with me feeling that Putting Your Hoof Down did a better job of handling Flutterbitch than The Return of Harmony).

Hearths warming was a good episode, However it did kinda fuck around with the established timeline.
 
Merriwether did fuck that part up.
 
Also if you think Mare do well is a good episode, I suggest rewatching it. As after I did that I was kinda thinking rainbow should have been angry at her friends for humiliating her in front of the entire town rather than just talking to her.

She didn’t though.

When she wrote Mare do well I didn’t understand all that hate she got for it, I liked the episode. In fact Wonderbolt Academy is the only episode of hers I DON’T like.

I liked all her episodes. Especially Mare-Do-Well.
