Stone Mane was surprised by the filly’s question in my Equestria dreamscape. Initially he started to say it was none of Lily Dancer’s business who Applebloom was, but after a second he sighed.

“Her name is Applebloom. She’s lives in Ponyville. Her big sister is Applejack; have you heard of her?”

Lily Dancer nodded her head. The colt continued speaking “Applebloom is Princess Luna’s personal student. She’s training her for a position in the Royal Court. Apparently she’s the first pony the princess has found who can help her in the dream realm. That’s where I met Applebloom. I was having terrible nightmares about dragons hunting me and my….”

The colt stopped for a moment and closed his eyes. He’d come a long way, but the loss of his parents was still fresh in his mind. The pain and the loss was still there. He was just coping with it better now. Organizing his thoughts he pressed on.

“Princess Luna tried to help me at first, but every time she tried to help I saw her not as the princess but as Nightmare Moon. That just made the nightmares worse. Finally her Highness asked Applebloom if she’d help, and she said yes. Understand this Lily. Applebloom lost her own parents a few years ago, and she still grieves for their loss. Still she agreed to help, and it was because of her that I’ve been able to break the vicious cycle of nightmares.”
I am no longer scared of you by Baron-Engel

The apple-green filly pursed her lips and stared at the colt silently. After a moment she passed the doll back to the colt. Then she spoke. “But that’s not the only reason why she sent you a doll is it, and why you want to send her one as well? She’s not just a pony you know is she Stone Mane? She’s special to you.”

Stone Mane blushed and once again considered telling the filly it was none of her business, but he thought about it for moment. Why should he be ashamed or not want to admit he had feelings for Applebloom? Although he was uncertain exactly what these feeling were that he had for the filly. If he was ashamed to admit, then how real were those feelings for her?

“Yes Lily she’s very, very special to me. Even if she had never helped me with my problem I would still like her very much.” He looked Lily in the eyes, for some reason it felt good to admit this to another pony.

Stone Mane’s classmate rolled her tongue back and forth in her mouth for a moment. “Okay I’ll do it! I’ll make the doll.”

The colt perked up. “You will! Great! Thank you so m—”

Lily held up a front hoof. “But this comes with a price Stone Mane.”

The colt deflated a little. “How much.” He asked with a deadpan voice.

The filly smirked. “Oh, the price in bits is not that high. However I want some other things from you. Do you want other foals to know about this project you’re asking me to do?”

“Uh, um, uh, well I would prefer if you didn’t tell everypony in school about this please.”

Lily took another sip of her lemonade. “Well that’s where the price goes up a bit then.”

“How many more bits do you want to keep your mouth shut?” Asked the colt bluntly.

The filly grinned held up her front hooves. “Oh! I’m not interested in bits. I want a few other things from you.”

Suddenly Stone Mane wished Lily Dancer just wanted more bits from him. “Ooookay. If you don’t want more bits what do you want from me?”

The filly played with one of her braids. “Well there was that whole thing a few months ago with you throwing snails at me.”

“I said I was sorry afterwards.” Grumbled the colt.

“Yes, yes, but was only because the recess monitor caught you doing it, and at the time your apology felt rather forced. So I would like to hear a more heartfelt apology from you? Hmmm.”

The colt glared at the filly for a second, but then closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “Lily I am sorry I threw snails at you. It was a very rude thing for me to do.”

The mare nodded her head while continuing to play with the braid. “That was much more sincere. Now. I want you to promise me that I won’t catch you treating any other filly in school like that! This Applebloom is obviously being a good influence on you, but you still have a long ways to go before you’re acting like a proper stallion. Promise it.”

Stone Mane’s got a bit a red. “Does that include Raindrop?”

“Especially Raindrop!” Said the filly. “Now promise it.”

Stone Mane gritted his teeth. “I promise will not be rude, or disrespectful of any filly at school.”

“Unlesstheydeservesit.” He muttered quickly under his breath.

Lily raised an eyebrow but made no comment. “Very well. I want your piece of Friday cake from the school cafeteria for the rest of the year.”

The colt looked like he was going to back out of the deal for a moment. Then he closed his eyes and sighed. “Okay you can have my cake. Is that the last thing?”

The filly was grinning impishly. “No I just one more thing.” She leaned back in the swivel chair and steepled her front hooves. She rocked the chair from side for a couple seconds as she stared at the colt.

“I want you to go the Fall Formal with me next school year. As my partner.”

Stone Mane stared at Lily Dancer for a few seconds. Then he took the doll and returned it to his panniers. “Sorry to waste your time Lily. I can’t do that. I’ll find some other pony to make it.”

“Why won’t you go to the dance with me Stone Mane?” The filly was staring intently at the colt.

“How could you ask me to go with you Lily? I just told you that Applebloom is special to me! If I went with you then then how special could Applebloom be to me? Sorry I can’t and won’t go to the dance with you. Now if you don’t mind I will be—”

Lily leaned forward and raised a front hoof. “Stone stop! That last demand and all of the other ones were just a test. I wanted to see how serious you were about this filly.” She leaned back in chair again. “You’re serious. Applebloom means a lot to you doesn’t she? Do you love her?”

The colt felt his heart skip a bit. He closed his eyes and thought about it. “I’ve never been in love before Lily, but when I imagine what it must be like I think it must feel something like this.” He opened his eyes and stared at his classmate. “I, I think it must feel the way I feel for her.”

The filly clapped her hooves together. “Excellent. Well now. Let’s talk about designing this doll for you! and don’t worry this will be our secret. Okay?”

To be continued.
