Wouldn’t it be funny if the EQG Pillars(Stygian as a proper member) Dump Pony of Shadows into Equestria along the rest of the world’s Magic.

I thought it was a bit too on-the-nose – and it was an on-the-nose depiction of a situation we aren’t actually in; it’s not like we don’t have access to renewable power sources, especially hydroelectric and geothermal. We’ll be living more modestly in the future than we currently do – probably going back to a 19th-century pattern of dense suburbs with electric streetcars, and trains more than cars for long-distance travel – but industrial civilization isn’t going to vanish because we run out of oil.

On a more Star Swirl-y subject: I really like how they have him as one of the foundational astronomers. Copernicus? Galileo? Maybe even Tycho Brahe? (Maybe especially Tycho Brahe, since Star Swirl played ball with the religious authorities over in MLP:FIM proper.)

Larry Niven’s The Magic Goes Away stories tell of an ancient civilization based on Functional Magic powered by “Mana”, but there’s only a finite amount present on Earth. That nobody seems to be aware of or acknowledge this fact causes the magi, magical creatures and gods that use mana to eventually “go mythical” (a very obvious allegory aimed at modern civilization’s reliance on fixed resources).

For all we know, this could be the same Star Swirl. We still hardly know anything about him.

I guess he was this world’s Copernicus. Or Galileo. Or some similar groundbreaking astronomer.

Yeah, I thought the same. I would like it when he is a Homage on Galilei, Kopernikus or Kepler. It would fits.
