I wasn’t entirely happy with my original design for Rarity, so I feel much better getting to redesign her for the Sugarverse!
 
While Rarity is a pure unicorn (similar to Twilight) and naturally grows a beard, she shaves it for personal reasons. Even though she knows that most adult pure unicorns start growing some kind of facial hair, it makes her feel masculine and as a trans mare she can feel dysphoric because of it. While she is taller than the average mare, Rarity is shorter than Applejack and Twilight.
 
No one but Applejack and Pinkie Pie knows Rarity’s deadname (which is Dapper Dazzle), as Rarity came out at a young age. Her friends were happy to support her through her coming out and transitioning, and Pinkie was absolutely ecstatic to throw a “It’s a Girl” party once Rarity was ready to come out publicly.
