And WatermelonRat, I just always assume that Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns is a private academy on the level of Eton or Andover, that just happens to be run in part by a quasi-public official.
 
Yeah, it’s a “public school” if you use the British definition of the word.
 
I think about it like if Obama, David Cameron, or Stephen Harper took leave of their senses and created a school. They’re all heads of government, but that by itself doesn’t make any school an arm of the state. The funding does.
 
And there’s a pretty huge difference between the Academy and the obviously-state-funded Ponyville school.

But both happened before private school.
