Description

Commission for Calm Wind

From the commissioner:

This comic is a parody of a scene from a comedic 90’s superhero cartoon called “The Tick” about a city full of incompetent super heroes with endless parodies of old superhero cartoons and characters littered throughout the episodes. The main character, The Tick, is the strongest yet most incompetent hero in the city, and always has his shy, meek, pudgy sidekick Arthur along for the ride. There is a particular episode where they fight a villain that is 100% a parody of classic Bane from Batman named Baron Violence. Here is the episode, i recommend watching from the start for full context (You’ll likely get a good laugh too), but the scene the commission is based on starts at 10:19:

I felt that Arthur’s hesitant and meek personality matched up pretty well with Fluttershy, and felt if this scenario were to play out with the mane six, she’d be the one involved. So how would this play out Anthro-ponified?

BRIEF PHONED-IN EXPOSITION:

Fluttershy is down on herself. Recently she and her friends have had to engage in more physical altercations to protect Equestria and every time she feels like she can’t help. Applejack is big and strong (We’re going by Matchstickman’s bodybuilder version of her here), Rainbow Dash is athletic and swift (and no slouch herself with strength), Twilight has powerful magic, Pinkie helps in her own way, and… well Rarity doesn’t help either, but that’s beside the point. Fighting and strength are just not her strong suit and she feels helpless and useless whenever such a situation come along.

Cue another day in Ponyville, weird things always happen in Ponyville and today some massive Minotaur showed up and is harassing ponies in town. Fluttershy is out with AJ and Dash, when they turn the corner and see the hysterically large and over-pumped minotaur bothering a shop owner. AJ and Dash quickly move to tell him off despite him being easily twice their size and looming over them, not to mention wide enough to cast a shadow over both at the same time. He laughs at them and tells them to buzz off. And of course Dash had to try and kick him, instantly starting a fight, but it turns out his comically large muscles are not for show, and within seconds he’s twirling Dash in the air by a leg while pressing down over AJ with one hand, her own strength proving no match for his.

Fluttershy is nearby and panicking. She wants to help, but how? The thought of feeling weak and useless still fresh in her mind, she shuffles over behind the Minotaur and tries to grab him around the waist while calling him a ‘big meanie’. He starts to shuffle around, looking down and around to see what had grabbed him. Fluttershy squeaks as she’s tugged around, quickly clamping down and looking for something to hold onto, grabbing the belt he was wearing with one hand and reaching the other around. The other hand hits something on the belt as she reaches, the sound of several clicks followed by rumbling and a squeaky hiss like noise. She blinks and looks up to see the minotaur shrinking, his towering height receding until he was the same height as her and all his muscles vanishing at the same time until he was a skinny rail, much like her. She stumbles back away from him, but the belt stayed with her, snapping off the minotaur’s waist as she held onto it.

Fluttershy stares at the shrunk down Minotaur in front of her, utterly confused as he frantically yelps and looks around and at himself. Shy looks down at the belt in her hands, and turns it over to see the dial with numbers on it. She starts looking back and forth between the belt and the minotaur several times until she put two and two together. The belt was what made him big and strong?

The Minotaur sees her and demands she give him the belt back, but before he can get near her. Applejack comes in like a bat out of hell and kicks him so hard that he blasts off again. With him taken care of, AJ and Dash convene and ask each other if they saw what the hell happened, but when they look to ask Fluttershy…

Where did Fluttershy go?

Cue comic scene. Fluttershy’s desire to be stronger and more helpful leads her to try on a random muscle device she pulled off some random meanie in town to pump herself up. This will totally end well… but at least we can enjoy the show!

I’m mostly surprised it’s that much of a difference with just two clicks.

Even though this comic parodies “The Tick”… it does remind me of “Sinbad Jr.”, a 1960s Hanna-Barbera cartoon… the character wore this belt that when tightened, he becomes this big buff guy…

Wow! Fluttershy is now capable of lifting cars and trucks, punching a runaway train with her barehands, throwing cumbersome objects over a mountain and even singlehandedly beating Gilda in Arm-Wrestling! Now that’s being assertive!

That’s pretty cool! Are you planning to make an animation with some of these? (Based on all these different poses.)

Bruh! Just crank it up all the way to town. I know you guys want to. I dare you.
