I think they are about 50 after a twenty years timeskip.
Given that the mane 6 were in their late teens/early twenties throughout the show’s run, that’d mean their parents had them in THEIR teens (to put them in their 30’s during the show, as opposed to their 40’s like the Mane 6 are here)… so no, I don’t think that’s the solution. I think they just wanted to visually signify “older” without actually thinking about how they could do that without making them look like they’re in their 60’s.
