Page 855 - Change of ArtI mean, at the heart of roleplaying, of acting perhaps, is coming to understand the distinction between yourself and your character, to understand that what you’re playing is not just an avatar of yourself in another world, but rather a different person.Easier said than done.
Transcript:
DM: So, hold on, is Rarity telling them in-character? When and where?
Rarity: I am, but only on the balloon ride to Cloudsdale, when I can be fairly certain that there are no Guild operatives listening in.
DM: Darn.
Twilight Sparkle: So, great, we have to choose between Rarity’s ticket and Rainbow Dash’s ticket?
Rarity: Well… Perhaps not. I’m planning to go through with this. It’s not in Rarity’s character to refuse But both of us are hoping that Rainbow Dash wins by such a margin that it’s perfectly understandable that I lost. Then, perhaps, the Guild won’t punish her. And if they do, I’ll just have to have a ticket-earning adventure of my own. Not an insurmountable loss.
Rainbow Dash: Hey, I can skip the Gala. You can’t. But I don’t think my character would wanna give up this opportunity, even for you, so I’m okay with just competing for realsies.
DM: Back up a sec. “My character”? You said that??
Rainbow Dash: Yeah. …What?
