This is why, from a game design perspective, you don’t just give players flight and teleportation willy-nilly. Because then you feel compelled to drag out this old chestnut: “Uhhhhhh, this ability would break just about any puzzle I try to throw at you, and any attempt to design around it would be madness-inducing, so… it doesn’t work here. Because reasons.” And even if all you do is put a wall up, they try to break directly through them anyway.

By comparison, navigating a dramatic improvisational story scene with four rookie self-absorbed actors is easy mode. At least to me.

Twilight Sparkle: I have… SO many questions… But the main one is: Why did you take our wings and horns?!?
Discord: I thought the maze would make the reason self-evident. But just for you, I’ll spell things out. It’s an anti-cheating measure. My only other option would be to bend space and time around you as you fly and teleport. Imagine how complex that would get! So I’m saving us a lot of time and a very big headache.
Applejack: Out of the goodness of yer heart, huh?
Discord: Like it or not, this is the first rule of our little game. No flying… and NO MAGIC.
Twilight Sparkle: …Friend of yours?
DM: Aha, well… It’s been a while since I’ve seen him in action.

DM: Only when he’s having fun.
