Creativity is born of constraints. Insisting on a fully equine body language gave the show unique visual metaphors. Most of the crazy facial expressions that fans seem to love read as ill-conceived slapstick.

I can’t role my eyes hard enough whenever I see people throw around the accusation of “laziness” in a field they have little to no experience in. MLP FIM has always given the ponies humanoid mannerisms and positions. Keeping them locked in the physics of horse anatomy lead to very limited and stiff animation. Its obvious the artist overtime started to feel this draw back and wanted to explore a wider spectrum. They’ve been pushing there flash program to its limits this season. The animation/art of this season is more detailed, loose, dynamic, smoother, wacky, and unique in its own way. It’s an upgrade.

There was no need for the subtle art shifts. Every other cartoon gets away with the animals using human poses that make no sense for their anatomy: why give up one of the facets that made MLP so unique?

I really like that they had her buck it like a real horse. The animation team has gotten lazy about keeping the ponies horse-like in recent years.
