This has been a long time coming! The first character I ever created was my ponysona, Affinity Heart, and my lack of experience shows in her design heavily. Since I started creating ponies again I’ve been wanting to redesign her and use the skills I’ve acquired to make a character that not only looks better but also feels more like a representation of myself.

Also, my desire to redesign her comes from the fact that her original design looks a lot like… Starlight Glimmer. I created her before Starlight’s character was introduced but that doesn’t make much difference to me, they were still way to similar. I wanted a purple pony as purple is my all time favorite color, my family jokes that I bleed purple, but purple is a popular color for the main cast so working around the show’s characters to make sure they weren’t too similar was a challenge. The fact that Hasbro had to add in another purple pony was like a slap in the face lol. But it gave me more reason to redesign and I’m happy with the end result.

Her hair is what always frustrated me in the original, it was just too simple. Hair is what I struggle with most but I’ve gotten a lot better than I was. My own hair is very curly and long so of course Affinity’s had to be as well. Keeping her hair from looking like Pinkie’s was the challenge for that but I finally found a way to do that. This design also gave me an interesting place to put her streaks. She finally feels like she was always meant to.

The accessories are some of my favorite new additions. I took concepts from my original design but updated everything and added in new ideas. Her earrings especially make me happy because they match my own piercings exactly. The chain on her tail comes from the original design and the back leg bracelet is new.

Certain things never changed, such as her cutie mark and breed. She is still an empath, feeling the emotions of others, and she is still a crystal pony/unicorn. Her story also hasn’t changed.
