I always just assumed that Braeburn’s parents lived in some other town and he’d left their farm to join the settlers at Appleoosa

Headcanon: Braeburn’s parents are also gone. Granny Smith raised him along with AJ and the others. I would say he is a close cousin of AJ (probably the son of at least one of AJ’s parents’ siblings.) also Granny Smith’s grandson.
