No, the name ‘Tirek’ was made up long before G4 came along, back when old MLP fans didn’t know how to spell his name because it wasn’t in the credits of the original Midnight Castle, only those who owned the VHS tape knew the real name, same way who those that didn’t bother to watch the Return of Tambelon just assumed Grogar was a necromancer because G1 was dark sometimes. The whole ‘they lost the trademark to most old gen pony stuff’ is nonsense and not true at all, they’ve remastered and even done reruns of the older shows as well as making the 35th anniversary.
 
If they had lost most old gen pony stuff, G4 wouldn’t have so many elements of G1 and G3.

That’s not the same thing at all? They lost the trademark to most old gen pony stuff and changed names can be put down to that fact. Or, someone just spelled it wrong. But it’s not some made up fandom headcanon that’s being touted as truth. Fun fact sure, but the comparison is nonsense.

Same way people made up Tirek and the show also accepted it.

I think it grew out of fandom stories that featured him. Stuff like Dircorderly Conduct, Grogar A Hearth’s Warming Tale, or the Lunaverse.

I honestly wish I knew, too…..but it sounded like a cool concept when I started hearing about it, so I just went along with it.shrug

I thought this was purely a G4 thing with him bringing back Sombra? It’s been a while since I heard someone call him that, and I thought it started around his appearance in the show as canon.
