Crippling anxiety is the LAST thing you expect from the child of two famous stunt fliers. Paint Swirl can’t even fly and is deathly scared of heights. She almost died at birth, and still suffers the effects with undersized wings and a frail body. Her whole life had been a cycle of fear with no way to express herself in any way her family could understand…that is, until she discovered her passion for art. Now, she can be shy and meek while her canvas displays vivid emotions she doesn’t express otherwise. Even without her art, Paint isn’t a complete emotional wreck. In fact, she’s something of a strong rock to her crush Royal Splendor, who has his own set of deep insecurities. Paint is the ultimate shoulder to cry on for anyone who needs it when she has the confidence. Relationships:
While they do love each other, Paint and her mother never really had much to bond over. The last thing a speedster like Rainbow Dash expected was to give birth to a shy, frail, flightless little filly. They couldn’t be more different, and it’s almost like Rainbow doesn’t know what to do with Paint. There’s almost nothing to relate over—well, except for their old tortoise Tank, who Paint adores just as much as her mother does. Soarin’ is much more open to Paint’s interests, considering that he himself was raised by a kind artist who so happens to be her namesake.
One would think that a shy filly like Paint would be completely helpless against two older brothers. And in their foalhood when the boys were much more rowdy, they’d be right. Nowadays, Lightning Bolt and Firework have matured enough that they respect their little sister as her own mare. Still, Firework has taken to teasing Paint about her love life and continuing to try to push her out of her comfort zone, against which Lightning defends her. But whatever her brothers’ antics, Paint is not afraid to kindly call them out when she needs to.
Whenever Paint needs refuge from the bustle of her own home, she knows just who to turn to: her honorary “aunt” Fluttershy. Her mother’s best friend is calm, quiet, and just like her in many ways. It’s a welcome change from her noisy family for sure. Whenever Paint is dealing with some issues, Fluttershy is usually the first to hear about it. As a fellow shy pony, she’s there to offer advice or just a place of comfort. In many ways, Fluttershy is more motherly than Paint’s actual mother.
Paint Swirl and her best friend Royal Splendor are as close as can be. Inseparable since birth, they are alike in many ways: shy, kind souls who don’t quite fit in with their outgoing families. Yet, they always fit in when they’re together, and that’s when they feel most at home. He’s always encouraged her aspirations and she’s always encouraged him. Paint can’t help but admit she has feelings for Roy, though she doesn’t make them as obvious as he makes his.
Paint’s best friend who isn’t her crush is Feather Fieldgoal. Ever since their foalhood when their parents would foalsit each other’s foals, Feather has been a constant in Paint’s life, almost like a big sister. In fact, it was Feather who encouraged Paint to pursue her passion in art. Paint often envies her for her strength and confidence, but Feather is always there to remind her that she’s perfect the way she is.
While Roy and Feather are Paint’s closest friends, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have other friends and acquaintances in her circle. For example, she has been friends with Radiant Jewel and Pristine Melody for as long as she can remember, first as acquaintances via her mother’s friends and later as genuine friends. Their friendship is mostly made up of spa dates and girly gossip, but Paint likes it far better than her family’s athletic lifestyle.
Another old acquaintance of Paint’s is Turquoise Edge, the filly who saved her from bullies on her first (and only) day in boot camp. They have very little in common outside of that, but that doesn’t mean Paint isn’t grateful and it certainly doesn’t mean they don’t stay in touch. She’s certainly a pony Paint would never forget. Cutie Mark:
In its simplest form, Paint’s talent is art. Taking after her grandmother and namesake, she can create beautiful works of art on the canvas. It’s not only a good stress reliever, but a way for Paint to express herself. And it is her emotional expression that makes her masterpieces all the more beautiful~
