While I’d normally say, “then why did eat the spells if that was the case?” But then I remembered the hedge-maze bit, and realized that being the “spirit of chaos” everything he does isn’t supposed to always have reason anyways.

I have serious doubts Twilight’s reform spells or Celestia’s magic super glue would have done squat if Discord had ever decided to cut the games and just win instantly, like he did when brainwashing Fluttershy.
