It’s not “radical”, that’s the barbaric, animalistic past and instinct of humanity.  
But at some point along the way somebody had the TRULY radical thought that “revenge” was self-serving and aggragated problems rather than solving them, that “punishing” evil with evil was self-contradicting, and that teaching people why and how they should be different accomplished more than just pain they won’t understand…etc.  
Kids’ shows generally try to teach this too and though they may be inept at it (like MLP)…that doesn’t mean you have an excuse to go back to the old eye-for-an-eye ways.

Generally, the solution to a problem is not going as far as you possibly can in the exact opposite direction, so no.

Here’s a radical thought: no redemptions for anyone. Saying sorry and I didn’t mean it won’t save you from jail time and revenge. No one ‘deserves’ redemption or forgiveness. It is not a human (or sentient horse) right, and in any case the rights of the victim not to be harmed outweigh any rights of the criminal. Yes, this would eliminate up to half of the active cast, including many fan favourites. But the show is called ‘Friendship is magic’ not ‘Do anything you want because we must forgive you.’

Especially these three had probably the best reformation story arc. I’m not saying it was the best reformation story in the world, but it was good in comparison with other reformations in the show. They even devoted one episode just for then.

The second problem is that the writers gave redemptions to the wrong villains. Ahuizotl threatened 800 years of sweltering heat possibly causing a drought that could destroy plant and animal life in the jungle. Oh, yeah. That’s because he’s scared of being punished by the guardians of the jungle who were NEVER ESTABLISHED EARLIER IN THE SERIES. Garble was smashing Phoenix eggs, nearly drowned Ember, and almost killed Spike? Oh, that’s ok. He just needed to embrace his hobby of POETRY AND ||yay||ING BONGO PLAYING!!

You can’t just redeem whoever and then not redeem characters all willy-nilly with no real rhyme or reason.
 
Is there any legitimate reason at all Cozy Glow is irredeemable while Discord isn’t?
 
Nothing besides the writers liking Discord while not feeling obligated to put in the effort with Cozy and it shows through the way they’re treated in the show.
 
You want to make an irredeemable villain, you have to actually MAKE an irredeemable villain. Not just throw whoever at whatever role because there was a quota to fill.
