Well, it wasn’t a mandatory boss. Every Final Fantasy has a boss that’s harder than the final boss and they wanted Absolute Virtue to be unbeatable. As it is the new team left in many of the BS mechanics the original dev team put in after releasing said boss to literally cheat. Like having every skill and completely healing and refreshing those skills at least once in the fight (It’s got Benediction).
It was three years before anyone actually beat it.
It makes you wonder why they would even do that to their players. Preventing progress with an unbeatable boss is going too far imo. Glad they were dealt with at the time and brought in a new team, but I really wouldn’t know since I completely skimmed over this game at the time.
If I remember right it was Absolute Virtue that was the dev team’s biggest middle finger to players. And when a massive link had managed to nearly defeat it they reset the servers to prevent it being beaten.
Again, that’s if I remember right. It could be a different game and boss.
Now with the new dev team it’s still incredibly difficult, but you can solo Absolute Virtue.
GNB is pretty much PLD 2.0 with how easy and accessible it is with it’s healing and defensive capabilities. Benediction still needs to be pulled off just right as a WHM with this being a tank class, but GNB is a very fun class.
Ah I see. I heard some major ups and downs about 11, but never tried it. 14 is just too good imo. I agree though the affordability can be a pain with the subscriptions.
With the introduction of the Gun Breaker, it is of utmost importance to use Benediction only seconds before Superbolide gets used!
Gotcha. I never played as a WM in 14 and can’t afford to play either now.
11 eventually got fun when they got a dev team that didn’t hate the players to run the game.

I never once played 11. Benediction is indeed in 14.
