Description

Forgive me for the long description. This will probably be my last upload.

Compared to my last photo, not much has changed. I finished the tail and filled what I could of Faust’s flank.

Shelter-in-place has given me a lot of time of work on this project. This is as far as I can go while the order is in effect. This is more or less complete. The only parts missing are the cutie mark and a bit of the hind leg - things I could finish in maybe 1 or 2 hours. I unfortunately do not have the thread for those parts. Originally scheduled to be complete by August 1, 2020, I got to this point on April 16, 2020.

Standing 12 inches tall with an equally wide wingspan, this embroidery of Lauren Faust in pony form is composed of approximately 14,000 cross stitches all sewn by hand with DMC cotton embroidery floss on 32 count navy blue linen. Although it seems like Faust here is only made of 3 colors - red for the hair, blue for the eyes, and cream for everything else - approximately 30 different colors were used to achieve all the levels of shading present throughout the piece. The original art was not made by me, but the pattern and the embroidery itself is. This is my last large pony project and completes the trinity Sun, Moon, and Life.

Once the lockdown is over, I plan to finish the last bits, wash it, iron it, and frame it. Hopefully one day I can get Lauren Faust’s autograph on this, but with how difficult it is to get to see her at conventions (memories of the stampede at the final BronyCon are flooding back to me as I write this), I don’t expect to. Maybe somepony reading this can help me? Haha. I intend to hold this as a display item, but since this is linen, there is some consideration of embedding it into clothing.

The Bust of Faust to the left is a test run to see how well the pattern and colors worked. It is one thing to see the design on screen and another to see it on cloth. This was a hard lesson I learned when I stitched my first large pony piece - Princess Luna, partially shown at the top here. What you see there is actually my 2nd run of Luna. The first run was scrapped 3-4 months in - about midway through - when I realized the colors just weren’t right.

I have my next project pretty much all planned out, but alas she is not a pony. Comprised of silk and bits of actual gold, she will be my most beautiful project yet! But I won’t forget my roots in the ponyverse. My best pieces are based off of the work by the artists in this fandom. I love the good work that you artists make - enough to stab cloth tens of thousands of times to recreate it in my own hands. For that, I thank you all.
