You say that like a strong female isn’t allowed to cry. Or have a sensitive side at all. Just because AJ is crying in this pic doesn’t mean she is automatically a “whimpering bitch” and isn’t strong any more. She’s crying. So what? She’s still the same AJ in all the other works the artist has of her. She isn’t a “whimpering bitch”.
 
The way I see it is that she is a tough, normally supportive and stoic pony who is letting herself put her guard down and cry and let herself be something other than a strong female that others rely on. Letting herself rely on someone else for comfort. And I would think the same if it were with most of the characters, regardless of gender.
 
But if you want to see it as the artist taking a “strong female” and turning her into a “whimpering bitch” just for drawing her with RD & crying, go ahead.

There was a comic I just read abiut a transgendered RD. It was really weird.

I kind of like to imagine that this is post-op transgender Rainbow Dash and Applejack’s grappling with the strange feelings it causes her.
