Well, do you know for a fact that there will be more than just wings that changes on her?
We don´t know if Alicorn acension means getting greater power. Just look at Cadence, can´t move a tiny star for shit and she got wings and horn.
Could be the same for Twi, all she gets are a set of wings and a fancy useless (just look at Celestia losing to Chyrsalis, Princess really got no meaning for OP) title and that´s pretty much it.
Everything else is speculation.
For example, i speculate that Twi will become the princess of Ponyville, similar to how Cadence and her big bro became Princess and Prince of the Crystal empire, though we should rather call it a Crystal city-state.
And given Shining´s reply to the pony who he believed to be the Equestrian games inspector who had traveld all around Equestria in the past for the cities who hosted those games, then princes (and most likely princesses as well) are as usual as heck, like each city which had hosted once a game had one prince &/or a princess!
Given this, it could mean very well that Equestria is made upon city-states with princes/princess as heads which answer the grand capitol and their princesses Celestia (and Luna, though we have seen that she did resume her night duties, we don´t know anything about her political position yet).
Prince and Princess could be a very common title actually in Equestria, kinda like Lord or Lady.
Now what you think about that speculation? This way Twi won´t have to leave Ponyville but due her new title new plotlines will open up.
Till now Twi´s magic got constantly stronger, she didn´t needed wings for that just lots of practise and studying.
But with her being a princess she might have to travel the world with her friends, espically since all of them got their elements with them anytime they want, as a representive of Equestria. A princess as a diplomatic representive in the gryffion kingdom makes more sense than a student. If Celestia would have send “Only” a student, then the gryffions might have taken that as a affront.
Given the rumors we had about a gryffion kingdom episode (way back then at the beginning when we made a list/got a list from the net somewhere) we might get such an episode or two in S4! More World lore! 8D

It says “no matter what,” so I am pretty sure it’s the former. If they turn Twilight Sparkle into a blue toad with atomic fire breath, I’m pretty sure that is sufficiently different enough form the Twilight Sparkle pictured to qualify as something else.
I would still love season 1-3 Twilight, though.
