Nah, the people making it are clearly having fun. And how would you know, if you’ve never watched it?
Here’s the main difference. Most Gmod and SFM videos are made because someone had an idea and a passion, and it shows. This is just a corporate shell, only using ideas from it’s fandom to try to appeal at a base level.
The word “dystopia” is used in an episode. There’s a joke that implies Pinkie’s brother was eaten by a witch. There’s a body pillow joke. There’s references to time dilation, and Fluttershy has Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” on her mantle. The second arc has a plot which, when you say it out loud, is on the same level of weird as “Engineer Likes Trains”.
There is a scene where Fluttershy pulls Pinkie out of her crotch.
Ok, even without ever seeing it, I can guarantee with 100% accuracy, that it’s nothing like Heavy is dead, and even Engineer Likes Trains is a bit of a stretch. See, Gmod’s funny because it’s completely unexpected, and depends on the creator. That’s the drawback for P.L. because you know that they can’t go too far and will always go for the safest jokes.

dude that’s what we’ve been trying to do for the last few weeks but you’re too caught up in your own delusions to accept the possibility that you are wrong, and you keep bailing on threads whenever this is brought up just so you can try again the same time the next day as if you think we’re so clueless we’d forget you’ve tried this shit already many times before

Looking at a glance at one episode and yep, confirmed my suspicion. Ah well, I got better entertainment value elsewhere (even outside pony) anyways.

These writers don’t really know what they’re doing. It’s like they’re simultaneously relying on existing familiarity with the characters and setting of Friendship is Magic but then also changing several important things without explaining any of it.
When starting a new series, you need a pilot episode. The characters, setting, and lore need to be defined, even if only at a basic level. You can’t just skip that. The characters need goals, motivations, backstories, and livelihoods. The setting needs its rules and history explained or shown. (the setting includes the potion gimmick and the tech level… and the characters’ various superpowers like Fluttershy being able to change her size on demand)
Nonexistent pilot episode aside, the stories told in Pony Life simply do not land. They’re not interesting because they seem to have a built-in fear of emotional stress and refuse to broach any type of conflict that would be interesting. A lesson that’s always great is “Talk to your friends if there is a problem instead of avoiding it,” but this show is afraid to present such a problem.
All the pieces of a good show are present in Pony Life, but they do not fit together. All because of the creators’ mentality of “don’t sweat it, it’s for kids.” I still think this can be fixed and all of the missing things can be added and refined in Season 2, but that would require a pretty major tone shift that simply doesn’t appeal to 6-year-olds.
Too bad. I’ll still be looking forward to G5, though. And the Pony Life memes are still great.

This is where I have been watching it, I find it terrible, just awful…
I haven’t watched any episode since episode 4 because I haven’t found links to episodes and the fact that I’m not really worried about this (if I had been 4-6 episodes behind in FiM, I would have panicked) scares me.
Maybe it’s a fun show. Maybe it’s an “acquired taste”, so to speak. I don’t know.
