Am i the only one who thinks theres more to this than Celestia being nice? She never bowed to anyone else before( the duke and dutchess was again being nice). I say she’s been grooming Twilight to be her heir. Why else would she ascend her? Cadence inherited her ancestral throne. One day, Celestia and Luna will name Twilight Equestria’s sole ruler, inheriting the sun and moon.

Twilight just did something that it’s heavily implied NO PONY HAS EVER DONE BEFORE. It’s a pretty big accomplishment, and Celestia simply showing Twilight respect for that. As for her friends, when the current princess bows to somepony, bowing along with her is what you do.

The circumstances are different. In Mulan, for example, the Emperor bowed to her not for some new status she had acquired, but for her actions. If Celestia had bowed to Twilight after defeating Discord or Nightmare Moon, it could have worked, but here it feels really off. Her friends bowing is another can of worms.

This happens a lot in fiction, it’s nothing new. Name me any show or movie where a character becomes royalty and there’s no instance of “oh?! your majesty! instant bow” I swear I saw it in a Disney movie or two (I think Wreck-It-Ralph had it too during the reveal with Vanelope).
