I feel like the writers making Spike a dog sure screwed him over in the long-run in EQG but also in fanworks.
 
Too many EQG crossovers fics I found where Spike got left out due to he’s stuck as a damn dog, it just pisses me off to no end there..

Or the fact it turns out its not just the mirror but apparently the human-world labeled Spike as a pet instead of an equal with how his human-world counterpart was a dog too(and initially a non-sapient one)

Yeah, you’re right. But how I said, it feels like something premeditated more than a neglect mistake. How I commented before, they transform Spike into a dog in Equestria Girls, even if another creatures like sirens, diamond dogs, and others were humans too. But well, EG isn’t cannon, right? Then let’s take a look to the 2017 Movie, where he was transformed into a fish in the ocean. People really think the animators and the conceptual artists aren’t conscient of this mistreatment and degradation while they draw a lot of sketches of Spike Dog and Spike Fish?

In many ways it was, all because someone “thought it would be funny”.
 
Remember Princess Spike and how Spike’s abuse of power is stopped early on, and he spends the rest of the episode following the rules he’s given to the letter, only for things 100% out of his control to happen and then he gets blamed for ruining everything?
 
Boy that sure was funny how Spike was just totally humiliated for no good reason, wasn’t it?

Come to think of it, you’re right. A diamond dog in the pony world should be a dragon in that of the human. That, or at least a dinosaur of some kind. And, unless it can be proven that the sirens were equine in nature in the pony world, their counterparts in the human world probably should’ve been dolphins or something like that.

Mirror Magic effect:
 
Pony (including unicorn, pegasus, and alicorn) = human.
 
Diamond Dog = human.
 
Siren = human.
 
Dragon = dog.
 
Something is off… Almost like one of these things was made up for a one off joke that wasn’t funny and didn’t take into account the long term ramifications.
