I forgot about the arcade port, I was thinking strictly consoles. But yeah I can see Button as Haruo but I think Octavia’s little sister/cousin as Akira. (She was a character depicted in the mlp movie who looked alot like Tavi except she had her hair in twin tails. Everyone at the time thought she was a younger relative and gave her a name, but I can’t recall what it is.)

Actually… Mario, and Luigi started in the arcade, not Atari. Though, it’s funny Nintendo used to license their old games (including their arcade game of “Popeye”) to Atari before having their own home console in America. (In fact, Nintendo almost made a deal with Atari to publish & manufacture their Famicom/NES outside Japan, but Atari got upset with them, and turned them down, after finding out Nintendo licensed DK to Colecovision, a competitor console. So Nintendo had to bring their home Famicom/NES system over themselves.)

I’ve seen “High Score Girl,” it’s a pretty good series.
Surprised no brony has “ponified” it yet. (I can definitely see Button, and a filly version of Maud as the characters.)

I don’t even think most people even know these days that Mario and Luigi got there start way back on the Atari (5700?) But yeah everyone has a favorite game character they grew up with, wether it be Maio, Link, Crash or in my case Sonic. I just think it’s cool that the gamer community is still going strong today. Like you have the old schoolers like us who grew up with NES and Sega Master System and you have the current gen gamers who grew up with PlayStation and Saturn.

Do you have Netflix? There’s this anime series titled Hi-Score Girl. It’s basically a coming of age tale/series about this guy who’s into videogames and he gets his ass handed to him by this girl at Street Fighter (that’s how the series opens up with anyway) but it depicts them both going through adolescence while going through each generation console such as SNK, Nec, ect. I wouldn’t nessescarily call it a “slice of life romcom” it’s more like a love letter to the culture of gaming. I say that because in a lot of ways I could relate to one of the main characters. Like how videogames were often seen as a geek passion or how gamers were often seen as complete nerds. When it’s really just people who have a deep love for gaming.

Weren’t those all by third (or second) parties though? Though, yeah I guess every system offers many unique franchises.
And with so many anniversaries in recent times, it’s nice seeing all the milestones.
(Though, it’s odd Nintendo only ever regards the anniversary of the “Super Mario Brothers” game, when technically, Mario had games before that, ignoring them. Especially, “Donkey Kong,” whom is a popular character too, and technically Mario’s first game.)

Or even a Sega Saturn, that console needs love too.

Sony did help bring us Crash, Ratchet & Clank, and Sly Cooper though while Xbox brought us…Master Cheif?…yay?. But it is cool seeing all these long time game developers and publishers hitting these longevity milestones. It’s kinda like tuning in and watching pro wrestling again for the first time in years and finding out your favorite wrestler that you watched as a kid gets indoctrinated into the hall of fame. I dunno, seeing Sega hit the big six-oh just gets me right in the nostalgia feels in a good way.

A Dreamcast mini would be pretty sick too though.

I’ve always prefered Nintendo & Sega over Sony Playstation & X-Box. I even have a Sega Genesis Mini. Wish they’d make a Dreamcast Mini.

Coolies, maybe I’ll consider buying some, though my computer’s kinda screwy now, so I can’t play them yet…

You wanna hear something crazy but cool at the same time? You know of the Yakuza series right? And Streets of Rage? Well I was browsing on Steam and I guess they made a mashup demo of the two that’s free to play. But they got a ton of stuff on sale on Steam, but right now theyre doing this publisher sale celebrating 60 years of Sega. They have every Warhammer game they ever published, a slew of Genesis titles, some Dreamcast titles, Sonic games. I think its cool that they’re doing that for Sega to be honest seeing as their games have always been a cornerstone in my childhood. So to me Sega has been like a long time freind of mine.

Alot of video game companies are older then people think. (And used to make other things before making video games.)

Heck, Nintendo is over a hundred years old. and started out just making playing cards.

@Red-Supernova
I meant “have to save the city.” I hate it when I leave entire words out of a sentence. (I don’t know why I always do that. It’s especially bad, when I leave words like “don’t” out.)

Only Sonic stuff on Netflix is the first 20 episodes of AoStH, (the goofier, meme-tastic show) and the first 3 seasons of the “Sonic X” anime.
They took off SatA.M., and “Underground” long ago unfortunately. (In my area at least.)

Don’t forget Netflix. But the way I’ve always figured it is this; it’s like you have fans of the original Power Rangers just as you still have fans of TMNT. But if you want to get real “old school” you still have those out there who are still fans of characters like The Lone Ranger, the Shadow and Zorrow. It just goes to show that some characters that have a strong fan base can still stand the test of time in terms of longevity.

Maybe… Seeing as Sega is still allowing SatA.M. DVDs to be sold, and the series is still available for purchase on Google Play, and VUDU, maybe it’s not entirely dead yet.

I guess with the fanbase, the lost/ignored classic game/cartoon/comic characters will always live with them, at least.

@Beau Skunky
It’s cool.

From what you said earlier, it sounds to me like Sega is just waiting for the heat to die down. I mean IDW just started publishing the comics like what?a year ago? So if they tried anything now it would just be a headache for them to contend with.

Also I’ve been hearing talks about a new Sonic game in the works so that could also be a reason.

To me though, I still feel the original cast is still cannon. I mean fans still post fan art and fanfiction about them online so I don’t feel like they’re wiped out of existence. That also goes for characters like Julie-su, Remmington, Geoffrey St. John (he’s a dead ringer for Frank Castle the Punisher in my opinion.) and the rest of the cast. I don’t think that they are truly GONE gone. If anything it just gives fans like us an opportunity to come up with our own cannon.

Like Juli-su makes it out on her own as a mercenary for hire.
