We could say is a 50/50.
Celestia and Luna are immortal/long lived alicorns,so they probably met Star Swirl at some point (Also Luna seems to remember him pretty well).This could imply that Celestia and Luna are not from Equestria,though.
Or we could just also said they weren’t born at the time and never met him.Celestia and Luna got “alicornized” some time during Discord reign and learned aout him through his works and tales(Personally,I disagree with this one).

Actually only Spike was invited,she was his +1 because his real friends couldn’t make it.
She was invited to a birthday party so she had some kind of social contact with others.
Perhaps keeping his beard was that important to him.
