According to the Bronydoc Extended Interview trailer, Lauren Faust wanted Twilight to be Celestia’s successor.
I agree with you regarding Faust’s “only two alicorns” rule, though my criticism of the idea is more ontological than metaphysical.
What do I mean by that? I mean that if Lauren only wanted there to be two alicorns, then it should have been mentioned in the show itself, not just by Lauren. I.e. if it’s not stated or implied within the show, then it’s not canon.
@JP
…Yeah, that’s it. Text shitposting to tell everyone something that EQD made a news post about.
I’m not sure what your point about it being written ‘under Faust’s time’ is.. Faust certainly didn’t approve of it. Maybe that’s why she and Hasbro went their seperate ways.
“Meghan would cross MLP over with Breaking Bad, Cindy would add Depeche Mode to the show’s soundtrack.”
^ YES, YES, and YES!
Uh, give me one reason why a royal would be grooming the daughter of elite other than “eventual successor.”
With the 22-minute limit, almost every episode was rushed really.
It did feel a bit forced, though not as bad as most people thought. A little hint beforehand would have made it better.
I’m fine with the concept, just that it was rushed and forced and should’ve happened in the series finale.
Personally, I think making her an alicorn without making her a princess would have been incredibly bad. Alicorns are supposed to be god-like beings who have extraordinary control over a specific thing, and are leaders because of their power.
I’ve always said that I don’t mind alicorns as long as they are always royalty and always have extraordinary powers. If an alicorn filly with no extraordinary powers just suddenly showed up in Ponyville, then there’d be an issue.
I never liked the whole “only two alicorns” plan, even if it was Faust’s vision. The “yin-yang” theory just doesn’t work with the other Greco-Roman inspired aspects of Equestria. Plus it kind of ignores the fact that a yin doesn’t work without a yang, Celestia shouldn’t have been able to just take over for her sister when she banished her. That’s not how it works.
Making Twilight a princess was planned from day 1. The alicorn bit is the difference. The episode was written under Faust’s time and she didn’t allow any alicorns other than the royal sisters. Though not 100%, it is most probably that Hasbro demanded the alicorn part later on.
Not that it’s the bad thing. In fact, I feel that the alicorn part was natural, the princess part is where it felt forced.
I have some news for you if you’re worried about Hasbro “making them work the merch into the show.” You might want to sit down, first.
This show is designed to sell toys. Shocking, I know. But it’s designed to sell toys and has been from day one. I have a differing opinion from you about the S3 finale, but I’m guessing the fact that it was written up in late 2011 isn’t going to stop peoples’ negative theories about rapid corporate interruption.
Derpy isn’t a major factor in the show. As much as I and everyone in the fandom enjoys her, it really doesn’t matter whether or not she is in the show at all. If it’s some sort of indication that the creators of the show “get” the unintended audience, I think the extensive contact and discussions we have with them is better than any background pony. It’s a moot point though, because she was in the finale several times and will continue to fulfill her occasional background role.
I’m talking about Hasbro making them work the merch into the show. I’ve gotten a bit cynical about it all after how shitty this last season finale was.
Also, the fact that Derpy could very well be permanently purged from the show from now on.
jeez did he insult your family or something?
*Fluttershy
Fixed that for you.
I don’t care about the C&Ds of fan content, honestly. I’m a fan of the show first and foremost, and Hasbro has done nothing but throw money at FiM from the day it premiered.
Notice how they didn’t even mention Hasbro approving their scripts. It’s so incidental to their creative process that they don’t even care enough to talk about it. If it passes S&P, they’ve got an episode as they wrote it.
Once bitten, twice shy.
Maybe they just genuinely feel that way. Are you really so jaded that you can’t just believe someone when they say “I feel like I have creative freedom?”
@Grieffon
Then why are him and Steffan Andrews in Vegas for this convention?
I remember something about Hasbro not letting Daniel Ingram goes to con
err can hasbro even do that?
They have to say that or Hasbro will ban them from going to cons.
Like hearing this directly from the people that work on the show will make people see Hasbro as anything other than creative-smashing suits.
