Exactly he just tries to hide it by acting all cool an confident when in reality he just to scared of failure to do anything, he made that clear when he said “what if try and I still fail, it’s better not to try at all”.

I agree with you he is over hated and honestly as a Fluttershy fan I like that he acts like a brother he can annoy her like a real older brother does, it would have been boring if he was exactly like her.
