Epic bruh moment

Well, Bulbasaur in general used to always be the least popular starter of gen 1. Only until nowadays does he get some well deserved appreciations. If you go with that Bulbasaur is older.  
Now I think of it, Bulbasaur and Applejack are kind of similar. Both are basically main characters who are overshadowed by other main characters(and even background characters) and only until sometimes after their debut do they have some form of appreciations from fans. Applejack should catch a Bulbasaur and befriend them!
