Because I like reach-y headcanons, here’s one I worked on a while back- but never got around to posting.
Rainbow is Wind Sprint’s aunt, and Scootaloo’s actual sister, and none of them know, Let’s go-

- Born as identical twins, Rainbow Blaze and Bow Hothoof are what many would call, “tied to the hip”. They were extremely close as babies, children, and even more so into their teen years. However, Rainbow Blaze was born as a female but never felt comfortable in his skin. Middle school years were full of a lot of self-hatred and doubt. Wondering if he felt truly like he was a colt or is it was just a phase he was going through? By the time he was a sophmore in highschool, he realized who he truly was. Of course he confined this all in his brother during the years- who was extremely supportive. Confused, but estatic. However, both their parents? Not so much. Specifically their mother. Their dad simply went along with everything that happened. Their mother attempted to disown them and verbally abuse them- Bow sticking up for his brother, leaving the house and dropping out of school to get a job to support him and his brother independently in their small apartment. Him and his highschool sweetheart, Windy Whistles stayed together, having an accidental child. This pushed Bow to work harder and start working two, even three jobs. He pushed Blaze to get his college education, and the younger twin did. He got a very great degree and became a clousdale chemical engineer(in charge of making the clouds and making sure they’re properly prouduced). He helped Bow get onto his hoof and go back to college. Unfortunately- it just didn’t work out. But he and Windy both eventually had good stable-ish jobs as weather pegasi. A simple and plain job, but one they were fine with.
- Despite what Rainbow Dash thinks, Windy and Bow’s first kid wasn’t her. They had a teen pregnancy in fact, deciding to keep him and raise him. Their son named Rapid Winds had a really good childhood, despite the fact that his parents slightly struggled with money. He was never a very happy baby though- but a very happy and normal kid. He wanted to be like his dad and mom- just manage the weather and keep tabs on what goes where. Rapid never had intense goals, just hoping to get a decent job and live a decent life. When he started middle school and saw the wonderbolts perform, he was astonished. He wanted to be that. Be them. He practiced day in and day out flying, training, growing. His parents supported him every second of the way, but not in the way they thought they were. They gave half-aleced responses as “That’s amazing honey, I gotta go.” “That’s great Sport, but Dad’s gotta head out.” He knew his parents supported him, but they never listened to him talk about it, so it always seemed like they didn’t care. Even about the small accomplishments. Between his parents doing their work and side hobbies- they rarely had any time for him. This only became more evident after Rainbow Dash was born.
- When Rapid turned 16, and Rainbow was born- all the attention shifted to her, and his parents didn’t even notice his downward spiral- hanging out with the wrong sorts. It became worse, with his parents having somewhat of a midlife crisis, quitting their jobs at the factory to persue different things. Windy attempted to get traction with starting a small buisness- while Bow tried to become coaches for little league teams and the sort. Rapid had a rough time during highschool as his parents lost a lot of money doing this risky move. Despite that- the small amounts of money they did have- was spend towards Rainbow Dash, showering her with gifts and trophies that made no sense. If he asked for money for a school trip- it miraculously had already been spent. Once he turned 18, he moved out- focusing his full time on school and cutting all ties with them.
- Despite having a rough time in highschool, he did manage to get good grades and a scholarship for a college. He played for his college team, and one game is where he met Clear Sky. It was a typical good girl meets bad boy story. Clear Sky was a nerdy, preppy, college student who was studying weather- trying to become one of the first unicorns to work in a weather factory. It was rare for unicorns or earth ponies to even consider working with weather- but she wanted to try after getting her cutie mark in weather study when she was a child. Her friends told her Rapid was very knowledgeable of the working of weather factories- so they went to a game. She didn’t know it- but her friends only said set up a meeting for her to talk to Rapid one on one. They hated how busy she kept herself and felt she needed to get out and have some fun and maybe if she met a cute stallion- that would help her do that. So they threw her onto him and then left. He was intrigued by her, obviously liked her- and asked if she would be okay with continuing the conversation over dinner. Clear Sky never got the attention of any guys, being distracted with studying all the time- so she hastily agreed- having dinner and spending the night with him. They dated for the rest of their college years.
- When Rainbow Dash was around 9 years old- Windy got pregnant again- however both Windy and Bow knew they couldn’t support the child even if they wanted to. Their part time jobs and hopes for success failed miserably and they were not only behind in payments- but severly in debt. They couldn’t keep the child. They kept the pregnancy from Rainbow Dash for the entirety of it- saying she was simply gaining weight. And if she would ask questions later in life, they would tell Rainbow she was surrogating for somepony but didn’t know how to explain it. So, Windy went through with the pregnancy but put Scootaloo up for adoption. Neither Scootloo or Rainbow Dash know that they are actual sisters. When Windy and Bow meet Scootaloo later in years- they decide on their own in the spur of the moment that it’s better that they don’t tell them. Scootaloo has made a life for herself and she already sees Rainbow as her sister, and vice versa. There’s no point in dropping a huge bomb like that suddenly. So they keep it from them- and support Scootaloo through everything they can, trying their best to make up for all the years they never had to despite Scootaloo’s knowledge.
- After a few years of dating, Clear Sky got pregnant with Wind Sprint. They decided to keep the child. Rapid didn’t want to be a father by any means- and only stayed because he didn’t wanna be one of “those stereotypical dads who dip on their kids”. So he stayed, but never gave her much attention. Because of this, Wind Sprint only strived to get her father’s attention even more- only being ignored even more so. When he was kicked off the wonderbolts and quickly got a drinking problem, Clear Sky didn’t hesitate to end the relationship. Wind Sprint was heartbroken and was very livid with her mother for a long time. Rapid couldn’t care less, being fine with them leaving and being out of his life.
- During High School- Rainbow Dash aqquired many marefriends, and though she attempted to date stallions- she realized it just wasn’t her. When she told her parents she only liked mares, they were nothing but supportive- especially Bow. Rainbow quickly was known as an edgy jock, and it didn’t take long for her to get a stereotypical cheerleader marefriend. Rainy Day, the younger sister of Soarin was a spunky little rebel, who didn’t put up with Rainbow’s shenanigans. That said, out of all Rainbow Dash’s “fleeting” relationships- her and Rainy Day’s lasted the longest- a total of three years. They split up in college realizing they just had different paths. They are very close friends to this day though. Her and Soarin constantly talk about her during practice and is considered family at his home, and the feeling is mutal. Out of all the wonderbolts, her and Soarin are best friends.
