Ponies in g4 appear to really only wear accessories like hats, saddles, and ties except on special occasions like the gala. The purpose of a swimsuit, other than fashion, is to cover up but be quick to dry, and since ponies don’t really need to cover up they go without them.

There are two things I don’t understand in the generations and their background.
 
1.) In my little pony Tales Patch openly talked about the fact she used to live in an orphanage before she was adopted meanwhile in the My little pony Friendship is magic it seemed to be taboo how the Apple siblings might be orphans raised by their granny.
 
2.) I don’t understand when, where and what kind of dresses do the ponies wear in the official media (colouring pages, books, magazines and comics) works. I mean even the ponies never appeared in mutch dresses in the cartoons in the G3 magazines and colouring pages there were many official pictures of ponies in different clothes even swimsuit. I have a poster of G3 Pinkie Pie in a blue two-piece swimsuit.  
In the FIM Rarity is a dress designer yet there are only a very few clothes appears in the fandom and there is no any official pony in swimsuit piczure anywhere.

At least G5 had the good sense of including those modern technologies early on in the settings without resorting to forcefeed a tween Barbie/Monster High/Disney’s High School Musical setting in a medieval fairy tale environement in G4.Fucking EQG is the most baffling,garish in its ordinary vulgarity and uninispired rehash of 80s drama school tropes, carelessly implemented spin-off that i have ever seen and to be quite frankly it even afford the “luxury” of being callously disrepectful to both the source material it originated and the original wishes/authorial intent of the original creator .It’s like they pushed a square block in a round hole and insisted till they blue in the face that the square was still round if you believed

Each pony generations are part for the franchise’s history and evolution. They represent what the trends were when they borned or at least what the creators tought about the trends.
 
As a veteran brony who joined the mlp fandom in 2008 In never understood those broinies who talked about earlier as craps even if some of them looks odd by now or wasn’t succesfull at all like the G2 My little pony tales which I like and it seems to be an early try to put ponies in modern era with modern problems like the EQG do in the G4 era.

Exactly. MLP is only MLP when it’s about horses in a fantasy land, that’s kinda the specification of the franchise from day one.
