The problem is that you’re not thinking in limits. If y(1) = 3 * 10^-x and y(2) is the sum of all y(1)s where x is a whole number (I know that there’s a way to write this, but I forget what it is and I don’t think I could do it on a keyboard anyway), then the limit of y(2) as it approaches infinity will = 1/3. And, if y(3) = 3 * y(2), then you end up with the limit of y(3) as it approaches infinity being 1. What you’re doing here is taking .33, not .33… (which is meant to state y(2)). .33 =/= 1/3. .33 ~= 1/3.

There’s no approximation involved, and you’ve clearly never worked with limits. I’ve actually taken Calculus, and the limit of f(x) = 1 - 0.1^x as x goes to infinity is EXACTLY one.

Problem is, the equal symbol doesn’t really apply here since its an approximation, limit i think it was called in math?

.333… * 3 = 1, not 0.999…
That’s the punchline to this whole joke.

There’s no such number as “0.000…1”; if you have an infinite number of zeroes, you can’t put a one after them, by definition.

That’s because the premise is not true. .33… is not EQUAL to 1/3, that is impossible; it infinitely approaches 1/3. As such, .99… infinitely approaches 1.
