u are absolutely right.  
I get she ultimately realized that she was wrong in her ways and that she thought she was protecting the earth ponies with her actions but u can’t just neglect your son while he has to take responsibility for himself. She has to take a lot of responsible as well for grooming him, he is completely dependent on her and while its played comedically its pretty tragic. Maybe I should just give her character the benefit of the doubt and say she is distracting him because she doesn’t wanna hurt his feelings of the truth? although that’s still pretty bad…. I hope whenever the g5 series comes out, it clears some of this up.

I’m not disagreeing that she’s distracting him, or that she’s bad at parenting or handing out discipline. No argument there.I also hope sprout gets some kind of punishment. I mean, he literally almost started a war! There’s gotta be a punishment for that!

I mean here specifically she distracted Sprout to run away, seems a lot like evading to me. I know this is just played off as a joke so I kinda hope she learned her lesson and starts giving her son attentions and some much needed discipline off screen. Poor Sprout needs help.

Well… at least she came to her senses…?she realized how much she’d changed him and it seriously got out of hoof. And yeah, the gadgets were a bad idea but I get why she made them: to protect earth ponies. Doesn’t make it right or justified though.

I actually feel bad for Sprout here. He obviously is a product of favoritism because Phyllis was biased toward Hitch and focused too much on her paranoid gadgets of fear. Poor Sprout probably craves attentions because of her. And now she can’t even take responsibility and is trying to neglect her child again. She definitely has most of the blame for the whole movie.

Well, I read somewhere that Mayonaise being the next “Peeved” became a meme thanks to Bridlewood.

Phyllis is arguably the worst pony we’ve ever seen.

Sometimes, you just gotta stick with the metaphor that people know and not the faults in the metaphor. The term has stuck around because people keep using it. Plus, it’s arguably less offensive than just saying “implied Parental Incest” vibes.

Except Oedipus didn’t know that was his mom he married, and when he found out, he poked his eyes out.  
Freud has been debunked a million times over and is pretty much a fraud.

I have to be honest, when my brother and I were watching this movie, we got some pretty disturbing “Oedipus” vibes between these two (I know Sprout’s supposed to be a Momma’s Boy and Phyllis is meant to be a Beloved Smother, but it gets pretty borderline). Let’s just say that thanks to those vibes, Sprout’s gonna be spending time on the couch for a while.
 
Alternatively, this can be taken as “I don’t have the heart to tell him how badly we mayonnaised it up.”

Hoping a redemption arc for Sprout in the series.
