According to my elders, opening an umbrella indoors brings misfortune.
Apparently ancient Egyptians thought it offended Ra (the sun god) to open an umbrella where there was already shade.
So unless you’re afraid of offending Ra (or Princess Celestia) I think the only misfortune would be knocking over a lamp or a vase or something like that.
