Its not a catchphrase. Its a nickname you call a loved one. If AJ called Big Mac and Sugar Belle’s kid Sugarcube growing up, he might have adopted it calling his own kids that nickname and so on. Kind of like naming your daughter after your grandmother or something like that.

That makes sense I guess. A catchphrase being passed down in heritage is pretty new to me.
Maybe its nothing but imagine the term “Sugarcube” was passed down the Apple family over several generations. Might explain Sprout’s color if he and Phyllis are revealed to be related to the Apple family.
It was only Applejack if I recall. Even if someone else did say sugarcube AJ was the most notable one, to the point that everytime I see the word I always imagine it in Applejack’s voice. It’s like she patented it.

In g4, did any other character use “sugarcube” as a term of endearment other AJ? It might not be a common term and Sprout does kind of look like a small Big Mac.

Oh yeah, I think I thought of Applejack too when she called him that.

The drawing is supposed to be Phyllis being at the doc with young Sprout. Phyllis called Sprout “sugarcube” in the movie, so I thought it was fitting.
