One could apply that logic with the CMC! And I would say not for good reason. There’s oftentimes more you can do with characters especially unexplored characters like Diamond and Silver.
Apparently it was Hasbro who deemed them not necessary anymore and we would’ve actually had more of them in later seasons, so we can blame Hasbro on that one.
@Background Pony #37A3
I think that was the reason they vanished. They were there to shame the CMC for being blank flanks. So in reforming and therefore giving the CMC their marks they had served their purpose and their story arc was over. They had also solved the main route of their bully impulse (Diamond taking out her frustration of dealing with her mother and Silver Spoon going along for the ride to have a friend).
@VampireScratch
Twist is a perfect example of this type of thing. A character meant to be a plot point and nothing else. Which is why she went from being Applebloom’s best friend at the start of Call of the Cutie to a background character within five mins. But that may have been more to do with the fact that Twist was just there to show how alone not hitting puberty getting your cutiemark can make someone and is the backdrop for the CMC’s desperation from then to this episode.
Which is a real damn shame. I would have loved to see what they did after their reformation. They just… kinda disappeared, only to be seen a few times in the background.

Basically Hasbro said that since the characters reached this point there was no reason to use them anymore.
Mind explain?
Well look who decided to show up again. People should be taught to stay away from you
I’m sorry? Did I insult you in some way?
