That’s actually a good way to look at it and I never thought of it like that. We’ve never looked at Starlight Glimmer psychologically and realized she probably still blames herself for what she has done. Even worse, she might not even have forgiven herself at all. She beats herself up tremendously in A Royal Problem after she switches Celestia and Luna’s cutie marks. She manages to will herself to participate an event in the town she ruled, only to get traumatized when they ask her to make decisions for said town again. She is afraid of making judgement calls and causing even worse aftermaths than the one she almost caused. Not only does Starlight blame herself for making decisions, she doesn’t trust herself to make any more decisions. And when she does make the wrong calls, she beats herself up over it, harshly. “I’m never going with my gut again!” -what she said in her own nightmare believing she destroyed Equestria again after switching Celestia and Luna’s cutie marks.

Honestly this insight just makes me love Starlight so much more and she really didn’t deserve all the hate some fans threw at her.

Maybe that’s just it: what Starlight thinks she deserves is probably informing how she expects others to react.

While people might have a point about her redemption being unearned and getting off easy, what they tend to forget is that Starlight actually agrees with them. She even had the opportunity to succeed where literally every other villain failed, but then willingly decided against it and immediately turned herself in. Even the flimsy motivation probably only makes her retroactively feel that much worse, just like she practically didn’t think she was fit to breathe the same air as the ponies she once ruled over. In other words, she has trouble forgiving herself and instead assumes the worst when things start to go sideways.

This is why I purely like Starlight. She is always so concerned with her actions and worried she might be bad again, even though reactions like this mean she really is a changed mare and wants herself to be better. I kinda just wanna give her a hug whenever she is so anxious and scared like this.

Now she just has to own up to what she did and be honest to Twilight. I’m sure she’ll forgive her. Whatever did she do to warrant such reaction anyway?

Starlight just wanted to help Fluttershy be more confident for her date with Rarity. Accidentally used far too powerful a spell, which ended up blasting both Flutters and Rarity. Now those two are so “confident” that they’re doing it in the middle of town! And the magic is contagious…

Heh! Remember that time (Starlight/Twilight) was panicking because she was terrified of disappointing her mentor, so she cast a mind-control spell that made everything way worse?
