Personally, I never understood the whole “Oh, Celestia and Luna are the only immortal ponies out there”. Please. We’ve seen that Discord is immortal, and Celestia and Luna HAVE to have had parents at some point in time. I’d like to think that there is at least SOME immortal out there that would make a good match for Celestia, probably some King Arthur-expy type or something like that.

There’s lots of ways to immortality, at least in my headcanon. Becoming a vampire, fountain of youth, becoming a golem, turning into an alicorn, eating grapefruit everyday… Celestia doesn’t have to be alone.

The great tragedy of Celestia’s love life is that there is only one fish in the sea - Discord - and he is the absolute last thing she’d ever want to hang out with, let alone date. Her only other option for a lasting, death-free relationship is her own sister, and as cute as that ship can sometimes be, I seriously doubt that will ever happen, ever.  
Chrysalis might also be immortal, but she’s absolutely out of the question for what I would like to think are obvious reasons.

I think the original Minotaur was an asshole. Iron Will isn’t.  
I think sea serpents were horrible monstrosities. Not flamboyant and having hair.  
I get what you mean though. Perhaps Cthulu was Discord’s brother and after he saw what he did, he was was like, “Wow. Dick.”  
And then Cthulu was good! :D

Not FiM Cthulu.  
He comes from a distant plane of existence where all his people know is hate and war, but then he sees a compassionate yet subtly depressed goddess, and decides to make amends in order for a happier life for him and her (maybe for both their people, too).  
It’s cheesy as hell, but it’s not impossible.

Although, as much as I like your idea, Cthulu - pleasure beard aside - is a horrible match. The guy is a sociopath and would spend all day stomping all over ponies.

The subjective parts, according to my cynical side, make me think its rebellion against female power and matriarchy.  
The objective side is rather depressing. And as much as I enjoy the thought of Cthulestia, the creators will continue making her single.
