I have no idea who voices Accelerator or Meliodas, but that doesn’t mean they’re not exceptionally good at their jobs. Holy fuck. XP

Aw, pickles. As long as most of them could make that sort of time commitment for a series, I see no problem with keeping the US voice actors for the five main characters, because I thought it would be fun to see them in the same cast as a new assortment of voice actors from Toronto or Vancouver. Besides, I know The X-Files, Supernatural, Bates Motel, Eureka, Warehouse 13, and plenty of other live-action TV shows filmed in Vancouver that take in most of their main cast members from Los Angeles, and regularly bring in actors and voice actors from both territories, so why is it suddenly an issue for an animated series like My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale to do the same with their cast from A New Generation? Disney Channel’s Descendants trilogy, which also happened to have Sofia Carson (voice of Pipp Petals) in it, could have actors from Los Angeles and Vancouver together. Sofia might be a little upset that My Little Pony does not do the same thing for her cast from A New Generation.

I said that, for all intents and purposes, the movie basically means nothing to the world of G5 and is technically a “new world” apart from it.

You then told me that there are two shows.

I know the youtube one is non canon, but I wasn’t referring to that one. So I’m asking if you were referring to the 3D show as being non-canon as well.

Ya know, this… really renders the G5 movie as pointless.

Hear me out; the G5 movie was meant to introduce us to the characters and the world they live in. That’s what many movies-that-lead-into-tv-series do.

However, the G5 movie… isn’t the same world as the TV series. As we ALL know by now, the world of the G5 movie is devoid of magic and the world works in accordance with those rules with the plot being the return of magic. However, it’s not like magic is returned at the halfway point and we see how the characters have changed post-magic, magic is only returned at the VERY end of the movie and then the movie closes.

“But that’s the point! The TV series is supposed to show us how they are adapting to it.” I hear some of you say.
So you agree that the world ISN’T the same world as the one in the movie, thus requires the characters to re-learn it.

“It’ll be the same characters with the same quirks!” I hear others of you say.
Except that again isn’t true. All unicorns now have magic. All pegasi can fly. All earth ponies have the ability to till the land. The abilities and even “little quirks” of the cast are now completely different and the viewer and in-universe cast need to re-learn this.

The final step here is that the voice actors aren’t even the same.

Thus, there is nothing familiar from the G5 movie being present other than models of the 3D characters, but they won’t sound the same, act the same, or be in the same world as the movie.

This COULD work to it’s strengths though, as writing the movie off as a stand-alone story, it allows the writers to factor in how season 9 ended.

And unions. Between the US and Canada the “where you live” vs “where you work” and which studio you are working for is particularly restricted. It’s part of the reason it’s sometimes easier to just go to Ireland or Hong Kong for things.

Sure, but A) tv is structured a lot more differently these days thanks to streaming _{(26-episode seasons aren’t necessary, for example)}; and B) besides Marsden and maybe Hudgens, I wouldn’t call any of the mane 5’s VA’s celebrities in the traditional sense, at least when it comes to voice casting. Koshy is a YouTuber, as is Glenn _{(the latter was in the former’s insipid YouTube Red series, for Christ’s sake)}, and Carson is a literally who?

Also, as iterated before, this fills me with trepidation because if done poorly, it’ll come across as a soft-reboot of the characters, and as someone who really enjoyed the movie, I would find that epically lame.

i men if you wanna get technical, then Ana voiced Sugar Snap in Pony Life and that’s considered “g4.5” so they kinda have a g4 voice actors in it?

At least they didn’t reuse G4/EQG actors, otherwise it would sound “too familiar” especially for older members of the fandom

I’ll miss the celebrity cast from the movie, but I understand why Hasbro recast everypony. They’ve been primarily using Canadian VAs for MLP since the early 90s (because, well, dialogue recording is almost entirely done in Canada), I don’t think they would do any different now. And, by the way, I really like how the new cast is doing their best to connect with the fandom! They’re pretty nice.

Well, checking Ana Sani’s portfolio (she posted it in her Instagram profile), there’s the possibility her Izzy Moonbow will sound different from Kimiko Glenn’s. Let’s just wait and see!

Jenna has appeared in Thomas the Tank Engine and a few other shows aimed at pre-schoolers/young kids, Ana Sani has a small role in The Boys and is also the current voice of Strawberry Shortcake (and previously voiced Sugar Snap in Pony Life), JJ mostly does theater work but he has appeared in Bibleman, AJ is mostly theater too, idk if she’s done any TV work, and Maitreyi is the biggest star out of the batch, since she’s the lead in the Netflix comedy series Never Have I Ever, and also has a supporting role in Pixars Turning Red

Zipp I don’t doubt. Maitreyi and Liza have the same Indian paternal bloodline, so the accent should flow naturally.

For the others its mostly gonna be pitch modulation - especially Hitch’s.
