in some fannons candance can’t use her powers on herself or those close to her either, where normaly she would see lines connecting a pony to all those around them showing her who was in love and who wasnt, when its someone important to her the lines are hazy or blured, or outright nonexistant.

so this is an interesting, but not entirly new idea for an alicorn to have this problem
