That is a huge contradiction right there. Am I the only one who saw this? You can’t love and tolerate while being against something, it doesn’t work that way, it’s also generalizing, just because people post on 4chan doesn’t mean they’re always going to be a typical 4chan person….

A fandom is in social terms basically a mob and like any mob it’s far, far dumber then the sum of it’s parts. People will always be dumber together then they can ever be apart. It’s wired into our brains, we literally cannot not be like that and that’s why despite the moaning every fandom in histroy that reaches significant size has been riddled with pointless drama, trolls, and stupid and always will be.
You can’t defeat human nature with platitudes and prays, you’ve just got to accept and work with it.
So here’s my actual advice and it’s worked for me well through several different fandoms over the years. What you do is you go and find a small group of people who you actually respect and that also like something for similar reasons and then.. you just hang out with them and ignore the morons at large. You enjoy whatever it is how you want to enjoy it without giving a shit what others OR trying to tell them that ‘they’re doing it wrong’.
If you can’t resort to going above 5th-grader potty mouthing, don’t talk.

Especially when it grows as fast as our fandom has. I mean we’re less than three years old, and we have multiple conventions.
I don’t believe there was a golden age, just a point where the angry shouts were quieter. And like with Star Trek and Sonic, when the fandom grew, those shouts grew in volume.
