Process is probably the wrong word, but it happens all the time, lore-crucial or at least very interesting stuff gets given to IDW to write because the show just won’t even glance at it.

Because it has to do with intrigue and lore and might have to delve into the past.

Which was a fight to get on the last show and was often shunted to IDW in spite of mixed results.

I guess the show is taking a lot of time and Hasbro better asked IDW to make comics to keep alive G5 presence until the animated series is released.

For those of you freaking out over how it’s too early in G5 to bring in any G4 places or characters, keep in mind that (as far as we currently know) this is being done only in the comic books, which means the show proper could have something completely different in mind in a later season that would render these comics no longer canon. Let’s not forget how often the G4 comics would end up conflicting with later episodes of the TV series (perhaps the most obvious example involves King Sombra), in which cases the standard response was that the show proper was always canon. If that standard continues with G5, then there’s a real possibility that if the actual show ever decides to mention Canterlot sometime later, it could be something completely different from this portrayal in the comics (and render this comic content as no longer canon).

You can literally see a photo/drawing of the Memory Stone in the G5 movie. As for your final statement you made that up yourself.

Celestia and Luna already lived for a thousand years. I can’t imagine them wanting to live anymore to experience constant pain and suffering

That’s why Discord is the ninth G4 character to still be around in G5.
