Magic is not the problem. Magic is the solution. If someone goes racist about someone having it and others not, can’t you use magic to give magic to everyone somewhat equally? There are Twilicorn and Cozycorn at least, and you are freakin’ overpowered Discord who can do whatever he wants, and there is as much overpowered (Tree of) Harmony literaly feeding from magic produced by friendship. But nooo, we’re too used to ponies being races, and better will throw away all the good things magic may do.

To be fair, it seems Equestria managed, somehow, to avoid destruction as everyone lost magic.

Also, Cozy did it for selfish ambition, in order to gather friends and have the ONLY magic in Equestria, without fundamentally grasping the nature of Friendship and its Magic.

Discord here isn’t doing it out of ambition. Arguably a bit of trauma making him think perhaps magic is the problem.

Actually was Twilight but in a worse scale and Discord really will not kill thousands of creatures because Twilight’s idea already do that and now G5 is a world where everbody can live without magic because they already adapted to that scenario.

And now ironically magic can kill many people just because of having a disagree like we see in making your mark.

If in the same issue says the crystals are what contain all the magic of the world, breaking it could release it.
So, it’s a 50/50.

So Discord wants to do the exact same thing that Cozy was trying to do…

Didn’t some people say that her plan of removing all magic would have killed thousands as some sort of reasoning as to why she didn’t deserve a second chance?

Makes her punishment even worse on hindsight.

Strangely it don’t feels like that because breaking the crystals actually isn’t a bad idea for 2 opposite reasons.

1- If he breaks the crystals and there’s no magic, the people will be safe because they don’t need to be friendly to avoid be killed for void holes.
2- If he breaks the crystals and there’s magic, now everbody can have magic and the void holes problem will not exist.

So, Discord is unironically a hero at that moment.

Lazy Writing 101: This is like the 6th time in a row they used Discord’s selfish impulses as a plot device.
