I like this comic, by the way. I guess this comment might have come across the wrong way but I just thought a stupid comment like that would be funny, maybe it’s not lol.

Hey guys, Background Pony here to explain the joke! Okay, so this made me L O L but I understand not everyone may understand. See, this is funny because this is a reference to the 2001 American computer-animated comedy film Shrek, and Pinkie here is playing the role of Donkey, the deuteragonist of the film. But here’s the thing: there’s an actual donkey in this edited screencap, this time not playing the role of the donkey in the actual Shrek film but as the titular protagonist Shrek himself. This is funny because we would normally think Cranky Doodle Donkey should play the role of Donkey, being a donkey himself, but in this edited screencap, he’s actually not, completely subverting people’s expectations, especially those not actually familiar with the lore of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
