You know there’s one game where the developers intentionally aimed for Z rating. It didn’t get a Z rating but you can see that they were aiming for it.

Explicit contents is not allowed to console game in Japan.
It’s better that Grimdark or Grotesque that the spoiler image that corresponds CERO Z.

PEGI mean Pan European Game Information and the numbers are ages
PEGI 18 means the game is only for people over 18

PEGI is actually pretty simple to understand, I think. The more graphic the content, the higher the age rating. Lowest is 3, which means pretty much anyone regardless of age can play the game. After that is 7, which could potentially have some disturbing scenes but otherwise is safe, after that is 12, which gets slightly more graphic and isn’t made for children. Following that are the more mature games, starting with 16 (which is the equivalent of the ‘Mature’ rating in the US), having graphic violence. After that is the 18 rating, which is anything that is too graphic or explicit to show in PEGI 18.

Can you please keep your political opinions to yourself? I live in the US, and even if you hate this country I like it. I want this chat to be about ponies, not about how much you hate the US and this country’s regulations.

There should be one for Taiwanese rating system too, even though two of the ratings are the same kind just with different age, and we apply the same system to everything from movies and video games.

My favorite thing about ratings is stuff that is perfectly fine to put on giant posters at trade shows or to have greeter ladies wear as sandwich boards in front of the office all day long - perfectly innocuous stuff that you see every day in Tokyo - lands you in the Human Resources department if you put it up on your office wall in America.

Like - the company’s own advertisement can’t be shown in the US office.

I used to have to spend hours going through magazines from Japan with a magic marker making our own ads ‘acceptable’ for the American corporation and HR.

And in the US it is called the ‘Entertainment Software Ratings Board’, or ESRB for short.

It seems each country has their own governing body to rate videogames for distribution. Despite the minor differences, they each work pretty much the same (IE a CERO C would be equivalent to PEGI 16, which would be equivalent to an ESRB T).
