‘Basically after the Matrix came out, douchebags co-opted the term to explain why they couldn’t get dates.’
You haven’t been reading the news on-line lately, have you? Women are falsely accusing guys of sexual assault and rape a lot lately. It’s gotten out of hand that most guys don’t trust women anymore.

Yeah, I get that now. And oddly I have heard the whole blue/red association with American political parties didn’t really become a thing until the 2000 election. Which makes me wonder if in retrospective if the writers behind the Matrix would have swapped the pill colors if the movie was made later on instead of in 1998.
Well the pill colors now are generally accepted as being a reference to hormone replacement drugs since the Wachowskis are now sisters.

Why did the term “red pill” end up getting used in a negative manner by society? In The Matrix, the red pill was the good one that freed Neo from the Matrix. You would think the blue pill would be the one used negatively.
Because taking the “red pill” became slang for seeing the “truth” of the world, as in the grand conspiratorial design of The Other. In the Matrix it was the means by which Neo could escape and see The Matrix for what it was, or at least start him down that route, the exact in-lore implications aren’t important because in the slang use, it’s derived straight from Orpheus presenting Neo with the option to see the world as it is (red pill) or continue living the fantasy (blue pill). To the people that put ‘taking the red pill’ into common use the meaning is still very much the same, but what the truth is is really up to whatever narrative they’re peddling; whether it is selling children on the black market for adrenochrome or some-such side of the spectrum manipulating elections for their ends. But because the meaning of ‘taking the red pill’ or being ‘red pilled’ on a subject is still being either convinced on the truth of a subject, or even more casually just learning a subject in depth you can actually use it pretty much politically neutrally.
But it’s still something that’s dragged about with the weight of having come from the /pol/ board and the political right from just about before the 2018 US presidential election or Gamergate, sometime between those two points. Even if using the phrase is and has been used pretty much broadly now by anyone.

Only if you have the belief similar to Envanglist/twitter user.
Example is placing insane and impossible high standards which based around a warped ideals onto a person or self and suggest flawed ideas.
example of this is believing to raise a kid in gender neutral environment by quashing all interest because they fall a gender norm.

Ah, I see. In that case, the simple answer is that, while everyone has the potential for bias, conservatives are far more likely to accept falsehoods/conspiracy stuff since a lot of it already feeds into things they believe (Climate change isn’t real, minorities are ruining the country, the holocaust didn’t happen, etc)
The “red pill” thing comes from the same principle: “Women are evil, control society and are using their power to ensure I can’t get laid because they are again evil.” despite well (gestures to all of America)
I meant the conspiracy theorist thing. But yeah I get that other one now. I’m kind of surprised there actually was a connection, I thought it was just some coincidence based on political party colors and I wasn’t completely serious about the Matrix question.
For that matter, why are conspiracy theorists now seen as being right wingers? Weren’t the 9/11 “truth” guys blaming George Bush for being behind it? Not Democrats being the ones that did it?

For the same reason the term “truther” has a similar connotation: because it’s been co-opted by ignorant douchebags who believe they’ve figured it all out in perfect Dunning-Kruger fashion.

She would also present her edgy memes (sometimes involving doxxing) in a cute way. So adults give her a pass.

Because we can’t handle the truth.
Perhaps it’s beause many people who proclaim themselves red pilled actually consumed a blue pill with a red coating around it.
