Pointing out the how and why of criticisms is far removed from screeching about the fact that the things being criticized exist. Don’t come at me with a “you do it better or shut up.” It provides nothing constructive. I loved Make your mark, and while the animation is by far its weakest link, it’s by no means unbearable.

I’ve never been in animation and don’t plan on it, as I’m well aware of how daunting a task it is.

Calm down, man. Just because I point out flaws in a work doesn’t mean that I derive joy from it, it’s that I’m not afraid to point out any problems and inconsistencies in anything, even towards works that I like. Also, I never said that I had expectations that the special has to be the same as the movie, that’s a tall hurdle to leap through. I was just making one little comparison with the hair to show my point, that was all. I know that the special and the TV series is not going to have the same budget as the movie and I don’t expect it to, I’m interested on how it’s going to use the resources that it has.

As for you, if you ever get into animation, then maybe you can try to fix those issues. But I am telling you this now: animating all the strands on a head of hair (or, in this case, mane) is no small feat. There are literally millions of ways that the mane could flow, and it takes a whole lot of time to animate all of that properly. Truth be told, I think such animation would be impossible on such a small budget.

Why the heck do you have so much joy pointing out the flaws of ‘Make your Mark’? Don’t you realize how big a difference the budget for that special was compared to the movie? Sure, the film has better animation, but you would expect that for a project that was meant to be released in theaters!

The TV series was never going to have that level of animation quality. I hate the fact that you somehow expect it to be that good looking!

Edit: Honestly, I think that, looking back, the biggest issue of starting a TV series with a film is it puts too high of an expectation for the following series. After all, the TV show would never have the budget of the film, with many cuts needing to be made both in regards to animation quality and voice casting. Hasbro made a major flub there. Maybe there wouldn’t be as many complaints as such as the one you made here if Hasbro decided to start with a standard pilot episode instead, or just used the same animation studio for the film and the TV series so that things are more consistent.

That’s what I mean, the hair movement is so stiff that I could swear all the strands are glued together while in the New Generation movie, her hair waves and moves around all smoothly and freely.

It isn’t that her hair is moving oddly, it’s that it oddly isn’t moving. The right half of her mane should pitch forward when she dips her head that little bit and then back again when she looks back up, while the left side doesn’t fall and dangle the way it should through the whole movement. It isn’t bad, but it’s movement that isn’t there that leads to the whole bit looking stiff.

“Watch us shake our unicorn butts” indeed.
