Personally, I think they represented her pretty well. There rarely is a scene where Opaline doesn’t talk about power, her superiority and/or insulting Misty. She’s boring like that. TYT is just self-aware enough to realise that.

Nah, they just had to be officially introduced in the MYM series before showing up in the TYT series. Strange that Sparky didn’t show up at the time, but Earth Pony Magic didn’t show up in TYT until after the MYM pilot aired. The synergy between both series being aired is precisely timed to allow for this.

Unsure; the difference in tone between them (and some continuity errors) makes me think that they are alternate universes of each other with the same characters and world mechanics but different relationships and sequences of events.
Misty and Opaline’s relationship is incredibly goofy and hilarious here, whereas in MYM it’s an abusive parent-child relationship that’s both heartbreaking and infuriating to watch
