Alright, I read ahead on the artist’s DA (This is far from the most recent page) and found out that they are actually the Stars.  
Something about the eclipse a thousand years ago caused by NMM drew them to Equestria. The sun wasn’t blinding them anymore or something.
 
Also, the portals in their chests seem to go to the moon.
