I do think Izzy and Sunny potentially drifting apart is a bit of a stretch, but Izzy being worried that she’s not fitting into the Mane 5 anymore because she’s the only unicorn has been a consistent idea. It’s explored in Tell Your Tale’s It’s T.U.E.S. Day, and Make Your Mark’s The Traditional Unicorn Sleep-Over.
It’s why this and Izzy’s overall writing are of the only few things in the comics I actually like.

I think the self-doubt is more about how Izzy’s never really had friends before, and so she worries that they’re drifting apart when they don’t spend as much time together as they had in the past (she’s cheery, but also a bit fragile, due to her loneliness growing up, is how I interpret her) - and that’s what’s causing her sparkle to fade relative to her friends’ (especially Sunny’s). She’s worried that she’ll go back to the loneliness that she used to have to live with, only it’ll seem worse now that she’s experienced having it alleviated.

Remember in ANG when she seems depressed over the journey ending, or in MYM where she mentions that she would lay under the trees of Bridlewood and look up through the branches whenever she felt “unsparkly”, which seems to indicate it would happen from time to time. Her sparkle couldn’t outshine her surroundings at all times, even if she was able to reduce her loneliness to a dull ache which she could ignore some of the time (or even most of the time) through her creativity.

No, the one misunderstanding the character is the writer who is choosing to give Izzy this completely out of nowhere self doubt about her “sparkle” in complete contrast to what was already established about her.

I think so. If Izzy was already used to being a loner and outshining others, why would she suddenly feel like her friend’s sparkle was outshining her? This feels more like something Hitch, Pipp or heck even Sprout would feel.

Maybe so, but she is comparing her with her friends. If their sparkle is growing bright faster, then it is understandable that she thinks she couldn’t keep up.

Thats literally not whats being said, its not that their sparkles are brighter then hers, its that theirs are and hers isnt. Aka shes kinda depressed.
Her whole thing is like an actual take on the pinkie using parties as a coping mechanism type deal that was hinted at in g4.
Esp as a character, Izzys whole thing is extremely ADHD esp with this bid, the emotional regularity and depression when it doesnt really go her way

It is tho? She constantly to an almost cartoonish degree mentions how she used to have no friends.

I feel like comics try to force a story arc to Izzy that would rather fit Misty. This isn’t Izzy’s character from the movir or any of the shows or spin offs.

Did the comic writers even watch A New Generation or any G5 media? Izzy has NEVER shown any signs that her “sparkle” can’t keep up with Sunny’s.
