Spike is a really interesting character that people tend to overlook. If I had to admit, he’s my favorite character out of any MLP gen.

Hmmmm… let me see if I can explain it…
Those sound very much like sources of stress he could plausibly have and rationalizations that he could make if he had an eating disorder.
I’m still not sold on making it fit his canon portrayal.
Then again…

A terrible idea in summary can be a MASTERPEICE in execution.

For anyone who does not recognize the character, he is from the Hellboy movie and when I described him to a guy who has worked as an extra in big suit (for instance some sort of swamp monster or yeti in the “Goosebumps” movie) as an example of how to emote without the audience being able to see your face his response was something along the lines of “Yeah, that was really good. Character came across as like The Nutcracker gone bad…”

I’ve actually had a fanfiction draft regarding this for over a year now, but I’m not very good at writing without anything visual

Being a dragon in an all pony society must feel incredibly isolating. Spike often gets left behind, and in the early seasons he didn’t really like his draconic nature that much and always tried to be more like a pony. I could also see him becoming terribly afraid of getting super greedy again, turning huge and destroying the entire town and the ponies that he loves, so he would try to “control his greed” and with time it would spiral into feeling like he doesn’t even deserve to eat. Spike also canonically has abandonment issues and he knows that ponies are afraid of dragons, so he might feel the need to compensate for his nature and be seen as “the one good dragon” by being as selfless and helpful as he can be. I could definitely imagine him developing some sort of an eating disorder, maybe bullimia.

Both of them have significant stresses in their lives, and periodic bouts could explain Spike’s lack of growth. However I can’t quite make it jive in my mind, because Spike seems to be entirely too good at chilling out(a) to have an anxiety disorder. Are my perceptions off?

(a)And getting Twilight to do so, but that could be argued to be a case of being better at helping others than you are at helping yourself.

Scootaloo… yeah, that could fit like a glove “I could fly if I weren’t such a tub of lard!”. Proceeds to lose more muscle mass.

EDIT: If you did Spike, he could use the excuse “Gems are expensive. I don’t want to be a burden on the royal coffers.”. I still have trouble making it fit with his personality.

At first I tried to pass it off as a joke.
I always wanted to tell a story like this.
I’ve drawn multiple concepts of Spike and Scootaloo going through it.
When I saw that someone mentioned how Sunny’s legs were thinner than the other ponies in TYT, I felt like I had a chance. When people became intrigued, I realized that I could actually tell this story.

Ironically, the ONLY part of this that jumps out at me as even arguably an error is the lack of capitalization and punctuation on the line where you were apologizing.

I realize that apologizing “Just in case” can be useful in cases where one can’t tell if one may have made an error, but I thought I would give you some positive feedback to aid your long-term calibration of your assessment of your abilities.
